The Global and International Studies program is based at Leonardtown High School. It focuses on offering students intensive classes designed to increase their understanding of the international community, highlighting the subjects of English and Social Studies. Foreign language is also another important component of the program, requiring that GIS students take at least four years of a world language, with at least three of these years being that of the same language.

FLES Classes

At six elementary schools in the St. Mary's County, students in grades 3-5 are given the opportunity to study a foreign language once a week for 10 weeks.

FLES Summer Camp

For one week over the summer, students in grades 2-6 are given the opportunity to study Spanish for a week. This is open to students in the county and students out of the county.

Advocacy

We plan to work with Nicole Halleck on a combined advocacy to expand upon her existing foreign language program. We will also promote FLES in the community.
